My Oldest Daughter
Blog 5

My oldest daughter and I have had quite the rocky relationship; we actually got along pretty good until she moved to Louisiana, when she was 15. She was born when I was 17, and her mother and I did don’t stay together long after that. She has always lived with her mom except for the 3 months she lived with me soon after her mother moved to Louisiana. Before that she lived in Darlington most of her life, with her mom and step father a friend of mine from school, he was pretty cool. She would come down almost every other weekend for years. Then her mother and step father hooked up with this couple from Louisiana, and decided to swop partners, for the weekend. Then they decided they were going to swop for life, so both couples got divorced, and they all moved to Louisiana. That’s when my daughter came to stay with me for the last three months of school, when she went to Louisiana to visit for the summer, she never returned.
I have not seen her sense that was 6 years ago; let me tell you that really messed up our relationship. They expected me to drive back and forth to Louisiana to visit her, well that was not at all in my budget. So everyone blamed me because we never got to see each other the whole time. Oh well someone has to carry the load why not me.
Now she is coming up to visit in about a week, and I will get to see her for the first time in about 6 years. I am really exited about the visit, and I hope she is to, and I hope we have a good visit while she is here. She will be here for a week, but that is not near close enough time to catch up on 6 years.
She just turned 22 and is graduating from community college this spring; I guess she did good in school that’s what she says. I’m not sure what her plans are now that she is out of school she has a few ideas but has not made a permanent decision. Whatever it is I’m sure she will do fine, she is a strong willed young lady with good morals. I have to admit her mother did a good job raising her despite the fact that she moved her away from me, and caused me to loose out on 6 years of my daughters’ life. Water under the bridge I guess if we work at it I’m sure we can make up for some of it. Anyway we will find out next week.
