I have done a lot for writing through out my high school and college years so far. I wouldn't consider myself the best writer but not the worst either. I have already taken this class once before last year, and I got a B in it. In order for me to get into the RN nursing program i need an A in this particular class. I have also already taken English 112. In previous English courses here at Ivy Tech I have had to write a couple research papers and some persuasive papers.
I find writing easiest for me when I am given a topic or at least an idea on what to write about. I seem to have trouble writing a good paper when I am given an amount that needs to be written. I think this causes me to think more about the length of the paper rather than the content in my paper. I have a problem with rambling on about things that have no relevance to what I am trying to say to make my paper longer.
My writing technique seems to work well for me. I like to do my research and then go through the things that I have found and highlight the things that I find important. After that I use a blank piece of paper and write down the topics that are going to be in each of the paragraphs. I put the information that fits into each paragraph. I then start to type my first draft. When my first draft is complete I like to get with someone and have them read my paper. They tell me what they think could be changed. I always take their ideas into consideration, but this doesn't mean that I will use them. I personally think that it's a good idea to have at least three people proof read your paper. The final draft is usually simple to do. I generally end up switching paragraphs around to make my paper flow nicer, fix grammar mistakes, and add other information that I think would make my paper a better one.
From this class I hope to be learn how to get my point across better when I am writing a paper. I need to learn how to describe what I am thinking better and be able to write it. Overall i don't think my papers that I write are bad, but I could definetly use some improvement.
